Norwalk HS Takes Round I
Firelands Challenge Underway...
The team from Norwalk High School used balanced scoring throughout its opening round match to secure the top score in the Firelands Challenge competition. It led its match with Oak Harbor and South Central from beginning to end.
Key to its scoring was answering both Toss-up questions, one in Music and one in Quotations. It also capitalized on the other team’s missed answers. Norwalk gained six bonus points from Oak Harbor and four bonus points from South Central.
Last year’s Norwalk team finished in second place of the completion.
Last year’s champion, Edison High School, holds down the second spot in the standings after one round of competition. It won its match with Danbury and Sandusky and it also led the match from start to finish.
St. Mary Central Catholic, which was the third place finisher last year, is in the third position of the standings. It defeated Margaretta and New London in a come-from-behind victory.
The closest match in the first round took place with Willard, St. Paul, and Bellevue. Only four points separated the three team as the match ended.
The first round match results are:
- Norwalk 56, Oak Harbor 26, South Central 24
- Perkins 43, Huron 39, Western Reserve 8
- Willard 26, Bellevue 25, St. Paul 22
- Edison 51, Danbury 37, Sandusky 3
- Port Clinton 40, Lakota 33, Monroeville 18
- St. Mary CC 48, New London 35, Margaretta 15
The top five teams after one round are:

New program sponsors were recognized at each of the matches. The new sponsors are Mr. & Mrs. Brian Allen of Huron and Great Lakes Electric of Milan.
