Huron has highest Firelands Challenge Score..

Moves into Fourth Place...

The team from Huron High School had the highest score in the fourth round of the Firelands Challenge matches.  That performance moved the team into fourth place in the academic competition.

Huron was matched up with Oak Harbor and Margaretta.  After a slow start, it took over the lead in the second quarter of the match.

Huron benefitted from the Team Choice questions to secure the victory.  It scored nine points in that category to Oak Harbor’s single point.  Margaretta lost 2 points in the category.

Huron also boxed out the other teams by answering both Toss Up questions.  Huron won the match with 52 points while Oak Harbor had 26 and Margaretta 13.

Norwalk High School, the current leader in the completion, faced down Perkins and Danbury to pick up a victory.  It relied on 10 bonus points and 8 points in the Lightning Rounds to end up with 51 points.

Perkins had the lead at the end of the third quarter, but could only earn 6 points in the final segment while Norwalk picked up 19 points.  The final score for Perkins was 40 and Danbury ended with 25.

Second place St. Mary CC had a hard time with Port Clinton in its fourth round match.  It answered all of the Fine Arts questions to edge Port Clinton by 4 points.  The final scores in this match were St. Mary 45, Port Clinton 41, and Willard 27.

Third place Edison struggled in its match with St. Paul and Lakota.  It was the closest match of the round with only two points separating the three teams at the end.  St. Paul won the match with 40 points, Edison had 39 and Lakota had 38.

Final scores from other matches were:

  • Monroeville 23, Bellevue 17, and Sandusky 8
