Firelands Challenge Begins Forty-fourth Season
Matches Start Next Week...
The North Point Educational Service Center will coordinate the Firelands Challenge Program again this year. Matches are scheduled to resume next week as the program begins its forty-fourth season. Eighteen teams from across north central Ohio are returning to compete for prize money and scholarships.
As in the past, the season will have six rounds of matches. The top two teams, based on cumulative scores, will proceed to the championship rounds. The third-, fourth-, and fifth-place teams will participate in a play-off round with the winner joining the top two teams for the championship rounds.
Last season saw Edison High School win the championship. This marked the twelfth straight year in which Edison topped all of the competition. Jay Neher will join Amy Facemire as team advisors for Edison which has five returning team members.
Norwalk High School was last year’s second place team finishing only eleven points behind Edison. It looks to give Edison a run for the top spot, also with five returning team members. Angela Farmer will advise the team again this year.
Saint Mary Central Catholic High School finished in third place last year. Jack Lencyk will take over as the team advisor. He has ten veterans returning which should help make the team a contender for the title.
All of the regular season matches will be held at the EHOVE Career Center. The first round schedule has six matches.
