Firelands Challenge Finals Set

...Round VI Shakes up Standings

The final round of the regular season for Firelands Challenge is in the books.  It proved to be a game changer for several teams in the area’s academic competition.

Edison High School failed to win its final match with Norwalk and Port Clinton.  However, it held on to its first place in the standings with 348 cumulative points and will enter the Championship Rounds

St. Mary Central Catholic was in third place in the standings after Round V.  St. Mary won its final match with 55 points and overcame Margaretta’s one point lead in the standings to finish in second place with 297 cumulative points.  It will join Edison in the Championship Rounds.

Margaretta’s team won its match against South Central and Bellevue with a score of 43 points.  However, its cumulative score of 286 points dropped it back into third place.  The team will enter the Play-off Round.

Norwalk was in sixth place after five rounds of competition.  It won its match against Edison and Port Clinton with 52 points.  That was enough to knock Huron out of the top five teams as it only scored 23 points in its sixth round match.

Norwalk’s team ended the season in fourth place with 245 points.  That puts Norwalk into the Play-off Round.

Willard held on to its fifth place position with a victory over Perkins and Western Reserve.  It finished one point behind Norwalk with 244 cumulative points.  It will join Margaretta and Norwalk in the Play-off Round.

The winner of the Play-off Round will advance to the Championship Rounds with Edison and St. Mary Central Catholic.

Round VI saw an interesting match between Lakota, Oak Harbor, and Sandusky.  Only three points separated the teams going into the final Lightning Round.  Lakota and Oak Harbor ended the match in a tie with 39 points apiece.  Sandusky saved its best performance for this final match to end the match with 33 points.
