Edison to Pursue Tenth Consecutive Crown

Sandusky, Ohio.  February 11, 2022

Edison High School will face Perkins and Bellevue next Tuesday in its pursuit of an unprecedented tenth straight Firelands Challenge Championship.  Edison finished in first place during the regular season of the program on the basis of its cumulative score over six rounds of matches. 

Perkins finished the season in second place and Bellevue finished in third.  Bellevue won its Play-off match with Willard and Huron to earn its place in the Championship Rounds.

Each of the three teams will begin the Championship Round with no score.  The team with the highest cumulative score at the end of three Championship Matches will be crowned the champion for the 2021-22 season.

The schedule for the three Championship Matches:

  • Match I – Tuesday, February 15, 10:00 a.m. @ EHOVE Career Center
  • Match II – Thursday, February 17, 10:00 a.m. @ EHOVE Career Center
  • Match III – Friday, February 25, 10:15 a.m. @ Edison High School

Team members from these three teams will receive plaques honoring their accomplishments.  In addition, BGSU Firelands will grant a 2022 graduate from each of the three top schools a $1,000 scholarship to attend classes at Firelands.

The Championship team will receive $1,000 for its school.  The second place team will receive $500 and the third place team will receive $250.

A traveling plaque listing previous winners has resided at Edison for the last nine years.  Edison will have to defeat Perkins and Bellevue retain it for the next year.  Perkins last won the championship in the 2001-2002 season.  Bellevue is pursuing its first championship.
