Firelands Challenge Round II

Edison Assumes Lead in Firelands Challenge

Tight Race for the Number Two Slot

Edison High School’s academic team has taken over a familiar spot in the Firelands Challenge standings.  Once again it finds itself in first place following its victory over teams from Perkins and Western Reserve.  Perkins and Willard high schools are separated by only one point for second place.

Edison relied on balanced scoring to secure its victory.  Perkins led in the match at the three quarter mark, but Edison scored six points in the final lightning round on its way to 56 points.  Perkins finished with 46 points and Western Reserve with 12.

Willard won a close match at Huron High School on Tuesday.  Down by five points at the halfway point, Willard outscored Huron by answering five of its regular team questions while Huron only answered two in the second half of the match.  Willard earned 46 points to 41 for Huron and 29 for Margaretta.

Other teams winning their second round matches were:  Lakota by one point over Sandusky St. Mary, South Central, Bellevue, and Norwalk. 

The top five teams and their scores after Round II are:

  • Edison                   108
  • Willard                  96
  • Perkins                  95
  • Bellevue                84
  • Huron                    82

The cumulative scores reflect any scoring changes as a result of Round I appeals.  Norwalk remains in the hunt with 79 points
