Edison Extends Lead in Firelands Challenge...

...Earns Highest Match Score of the Season

Sandusky, Ohio.  January 15, 2019 – Edison High School holds a 50 point lead in the Firelands Challenge academic competition after the fifth round of the regular season.  Edison’s team earned 24 points in its match with Perkins and Western Reserve before the other teams posted any points.  The team never looked back on its way to 63 match points, the highest score of the season.

Perkins used its 34 match points to move into a tie with Monroeville for fifth in the standings.  Monroeville was bumped from third place in the standings by Huron.  Huron scored 47 points in a close match with Margaretta and Norwalk.  Those two teams tied with 35.

Danbury scored its highest score of the season with 42 points.  Lakota also posted its highest score of the season with 39 points.

Edison swept the Current Events and Physical Science categories on its way to the highest score.  The team took eight bonus points each from Perkins and Western Reserve.  It also answered eight out of ten regular team questions on its way to victory.

The regular season of Firelands Challenge wraps up next week with matches on Jan 23 and 24.  The top two teams based on their cumulative scores will qualify for the championship rounds.  Teams in third through fifth place will enter a play-off match with the winner of the match eligible for the championship rounds.
