2020 Ottawa County Spelling Bee Finalists

The 27th Annual Ottawa County Spelling Bee was held on Tuesday, February 4, at the Port Clinton City Schools Performing Arts Center.  Twenty-eight (28) students from grades 5-8 represented 10 school buildings, 6 school districts, and 1 parochial school in Ottawa County.  The four finalists are eligible to attend the regional Northwest Ohio Blade Championship Bee in March.  The winner of The Blade Bee wins an all-expense paid trip to The Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

North Point E.S.C. employees (Andrea Smith, Linda Stauffer, Karen Ruf, and Debbie Graber) coordinate the Annual Ottawa County Spelling Bee along with assistance from representatives of the Port Clinton Women’s Club.

The following students are the four finalists and will be continuing at the Northwest Ohio Blade Championship Bee:   

1st -- Emil Michael - Grade 8 - Put-In-Bay Local School District

2nd -- Maria Maringer - Grade 8 - Danbury Local School District

3rd -- Savannah Plantz - Grade 7 - Woodmore Local School District

4rd -- Kyle Thompson - Grade 5 - Genoa Area Local School District
