Willard Takes Narrow Lead in Firelands Challenge...

...Edison and Perkins are close behind.

Willard High School’s team took first round honors in the Firelands Challenge academic competition with a high score of 52 points.  The team members showed balanced scoring by answering 7 out of 10 questions directly posed to them.  They also earned bonus points from the Port Clinton and Danbury teams in 7 out of 10 categories.

Edison and Perkins High Schools kept pace with Willard.  They came in with tied scores of 49.  The two teams notched victories in their matches by different means.  Edison correctly answered a Team Choice question to add six points to its score.  Perkins correctly answered six one-point questions in the first Lightning Round to up its score total.

Edison won its match with Monroeville and Margaretta.  Perkins won its match with Sandusky and South Central.

The top six teams and their scores after Round I are:

  • Willard                  52
  • Edison                   49
  • Perkins                 49
  • Huron                   41
  • Bellevue              37
  • Norwalk               37

Teams are permitted to appeal answers they gave that they believe are valid but that were not accorded points during a match.  Some appeals have been filed and the match scores may change as a result.
