39th Season is Set to Begin...
...Oak Harbor High School Joins Firelands Challenge
High schools across north central Ohio are getting ready to begin a new season of the Firelands Challenge academic competition. This year Oak Harbor High School replaces Clyde High School in the eighteen-team field.
Matches begin next week with the first of six rounds of competition. The highest cumulative scores at the end of the six rounds determine which teams participate in the Play-off and Championship Rounds. The matches consist of questions drawn from school courses such as life sciences, mathematics, and American history. There are also special categories with questions in fields such as music theory and Shakespeare.
As the season begins, the participating teams will be attempting to unseat Edison High School as the reigning champion. Edison’s teams have held that position for seven straight years.
The first round match-ups include:
September 30 at the Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center in Norwalk
9:30 am Willard Danbury Port Clinton
10:45 am St. Paul St. Mary New London
