EDISON STAKES SLIM LEAD IN FIRELANDS CHALLENGE

Round I Match Results

Sandusky, Ohio.  October 17, 2018 – Edison High School does not appear ready to relinquish its string of six championships in the Firelands Challenge competition.  At the end of the first round of matches in the 2018-19 season it holds a five point lead in the standings over Clyde High School. There are six rounds of matches in the competition.

Edison answered two team choice questions and two toss-up questions to come from behind and win its match with Monroeville and St. Paul.  Clyde earned 14 bonus points and answered two toss-up questions to dominate its match with South Central and Western Reserve.

Monroeville swept the mathematics category with a strong performance against Edison and St. Paul.  It stands in third place. Margaretta, under new advisors Sara Weller and Mark Novak, scored 50 points to secure fourth place.  Rounding out the top five is Willard after its match with Huron and Perkins.

Only ten points separate the top five teams after the first round.  Three other teams, Perkins, Danbury, and St. Mary Central Catholic, are within ten points of the leading teams.  The competition is close as the thirty-eighth season of Firelands Challenge is underway.

The top five teams and their scores after Round I are:

  • Edison 58

  • Clyde 53

  • Monroeville 51

  • Margaretta 50
