North Force Sports Camp Session 1

Session 1 has ended for North Force Sports Camp. Session 2 begins July 30th.

North Point Educational Service Center and Sports Force Parks sponsored its second annual North Force sports camp for area children with developmental disabilities and their siblings this month, where they encountered a new sport each week at Cedar Point Sports Center.

Participants recently learned the basics of baseball, its rules and terminology, while strengthening their hand-eye coordination and teamwork skills.

As each child took turns smacking the ball onto the field and running the bases during a game, they were cheered on by coaches and players from both teams in addition to family members and camp volunteers. An awards ceremony occurred after the game.

“A large part of our duties provides many services for students during the school years, so this steps out of the classroom to keep kids active and involved,” said Karen Ruf, director of multiple disabilities with North Point.

Perkins Township resident Kelly Scott, who watched her sons Justin, 12 and Chris, 11 play baseball Thursday, commended the summer program and its staff.

“It’s nice to keep them in a routine, which they need, and they get to play sports they don’t normally get to play,” she said. “This is so nice because everyone’s cheering and so supportive of the kids, too.”
