EDISON WIDENS LEAD IN FIRELANDS CHALLENGE

Round II Match Results:

Sandusky, Ohio.  November 8, 2017 – Edison High School’s academic team widened its lead in the Firelands Challenge competition with a convincing win in the second round of matches.  Edison scored 62 points in defeating Danbury and Port Clinton.  The team swept all of the questions in four categories:  World History, Mathematics, Great Books, and Physical Science.

A close battle for second place in the standings continues between St. Paul High School and Monroeville High School.  St. Paul holds a one point edge over Monroeville after winning its match against New London and Clyde.  The team used balanced scoring in the first three segments of the match to earn 46 points.  Monroeville scored 41 points in winning its match.

Huron’s Firelands Challenge team used a strong performance in front of its student body to move from a tie for eighth place into a tie for third place.  The team answered both toss-up questions and picked up 12 bonus points on its way to victory with 59 points.

The Firelands Challenge program is made possible with the support of area service organizations and businesses.  Tenneco Inc. of Milan is a major sponsor.  Other sponsors include Buckeye Broadband, Firelands Regional Medical Center, Johns Manville, the Norwalk Rotary Club, R&D Equipment Inc., Schlessman Seed Company, Whirlpool Corporation, and the Willard Rotary Club.  Bowling Green State University, Firelands College also contributes by offering $1,000 scholarships to students from the top three schools in the competition.
