Students Participate in Recreation Fair
On Wednesday, March 17, 2010, approximately 100 special needs students from 15 classrooms participated in the North Point Educational Service Center’s Annual Recreation Fair. The even was held at the Ernsthausen Community Center in Norwalk and focused on the need to be active in order to maintain one’s health.
Scott Prunty, Saundra Young and Zack Moots (North Point Physical Education teachers), planned the event in cooperation with teachers, supervisors and educational personnel. The Fair’s activities included: basketball, scooter board, baseball, relay races, beanbag toss, hula hoops, bowling and indoor track. The theme of the day was “Stay Active, Stay Healthy.”
Support and assistance was provided by North Point teachers and educational assistants. In addition, Ms. TJ Thomas, a Norwalk High School PE teacher brought 25 student volunteers from Norwalk High School to assist with the recreation activities and sporting events.
The Center extends its thanks to Joe Lindenberger, Norwalk Park and Recreation Department, who arranged for the ESC to use the facility. “The Ernsthausen staff,” Karen Ruf (NPESC/Program Director) noted, “have been great to work with. They truly are dedicated to making the community better and ensuring individuals have opportunities to engage in healthy activities.
The Recreation Fair also emphasizes sportsmanship. Each participant received a certificate of accomplishment at the end of the day, and each class performed a cheer to congratulate the other classes.
