OESCA Honors North Point Board Members
At the Ohio School Boards Association’s annual Capital Conference, the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) took time to honor nine ESC board members from across the state for their dedication and service to public education. Three of the individuals recognized were North Point Educational Service Center Governing Board members.
The recognition program occurred during OESCA’s Annual Capital Conference Brunch which was held November 9, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency/Ohio Center in Columbus. Approximately two-hundred (200) people were in attendance, and shared in honoring Randall Macko, Judith Sander and Carole Kuns.
Mr. Macko and Mrs. Sander received OESCA’s “Distinguished Service Award” for their twenty (20) years of service as educational service center board members. In honoring the two, Craig Burford, OESCA’s Executive Director, noted, “Mr. Macko and Mrs. Sander have been advocates for public education all of their professional life. Both are professional educators who have contributed to student achievement and improved their building’s academic performance. Both have also served as board members for over twenty years and their vision and commitment has made a difference to the children in north central Ohio.”
Mrs. Kuns received OESCA’s “Special Distinguished Service Award” for her thirty (30) years of service as an educational service center board member. Mr. Burford shared with the attendees that, “Mrs. Kuns’ service bridges three decades and her leadership as Governing Board President has taken her agency from a single county unit to a multi-county organization serving some forty-thousand (40,000) students. Her efforts and dedication has improved schools throughout the region and she has left her mark on public education.”
In addition to the North Point Governing Board members, OESCA also honored NASA FIRST, NASA Plum Brook, and Lance Warner for an initiative that encourages students to consider careers in mathematics, science, engineering, technology and skilled trades. The efforts are targeted toward sparking student interest in 21st Century careers.
OSBA’s Capital Conference is the largest educational conference in the Midwest and the third largest in the United States. Approximately 10,000 school officials attend the event.
